Ricky Ponting would’ve been mighty pleased to see the mess of motley cricketers at Chidlow Oval for the ‘Biggest Game of Cricket’ fundraiser this Australia Day weekend.

Eight teams of Hills juniors, parents, and cricket enthusiasts converged for a festival of bat and ball and played a round robin, ‘tennis ball’ tournament for fun and to raise cash for the Ponting Foundation. The retired Aussie captain’s foundation works to ease the burden for kids with cancer and their families.

Over 100 cricketers from Mt Helena, Sawyers, Gidge and Chidlow joined the mob and Chidlow Oval buzzed with Australia Day weekend cricket chaos.

Juliana Barrington form Eastern Hills Cricket Club jumped into action after Christmas and put out the call for the ‘Biggest Game of Cricket.’ “I’m really happy with the turn out” she said while taking money for the sausage sizzle. “I’m happy everyone’s having a really good time.”

Cricket mum Jenny Taylor interjects to let everyone know that Juliana is really Superwoman. Juliana thinks the great response merely reflects the community spirit of the Hills and its cricketers.

Players paid $10 a piece to play and all that cricketing meant thirst and hunger, meaning more money raised at the sausage sizzle.

By stumps, Juliana reckons they had raised $1450 dollars for the Ponting Foundation as well as having a great morning’s cricket.
